Applications

Fan/Pumps systems

Electric motor systems account for about 60 percent of global industrial electricity consumption. Electric motors drive both core industrial processes, like presses or rolls, and auxiliary systems, like compressed air generation, ventilation or water pumping. They are utilized throughout all industrial branches, though the main applications vary. Pressure pulsations are harmful to machine direction basis weight quality. Variable speed drives cuts Energy Cost up to 70%. Reduced maintenance & downtime cuts cost.

Conveyors systems

A conveyor system is a common piece of mechanical handling equipment that moves materials from one location to another. Conveyors are especially useful in applications involving the transportation of heavy or bulky materials. Many kinds of conveying systems are available, and are used according to the various needs of different industries. A conveyor system is often the lifeline to a company’s ability to effectively move its product in a timely fashion. Efficient PSY Systems soft starters, VSD, IPC and safety systems optimize the live, product handling, care and maintenance of conveyor systems.

Coilers/Winder systems

There are many daily applications that use coils, such as the pickup head of a DVD player, power supplies, electronic transformers, switching transformers and motors. In particular, applications for motors are various and many. The vehicle industry is a typical example, where just one luxury vehicle requires almost 150 motors. The requirements for motors are also very high. In general, a motor has a stator and a rotor. The stator is a stationary element, and the rotor is a rotating element. A stator comprises plural stacked silicon steel plates wrapped in several sets of tightly-wound copper wires called coils. The coil’s winding is critical in the manufacturing process of stator construction and also very important for the quality of the motor. There are many kinds of coil winding machines for the manufacturing of many types of stators. For coil winding machine applications, PSY Systems provides high performance PLC servo systems to facilitate the high-speed and high-precision winding process.

Mixers/Crushers systems

A crusher is a machine designed to reduce large rocks into smaller rocks, gravel, or rock dust. Crushers may be used to reduce the size, or change the form, of waste materials so they can be more easily disposed of or recycled, or to reduce the size of a solid mix of raw materials (as in rock ore), so that pieces of different composition can be differentiated. In industrial process engineering, mixing is a unit operation that involves manipulating a heterogeneous physical system, with the intent to make it more homogeneous. Static mixers applications include wastewater treatment and chemical processing. Solid mixing has several processes available from silo mixers to horizontal mixers and conical mixers. PSY Systems soft starters, PLC and wastewater projects support mixers/crushers systems.

Cranes/Hoists systems

A hoist and crane are a devices used for lifting or lowering a load by means of a drum or lift-wheel around which rope or chain wraps. Nowadays many hoists are package hoists, built as one unit in a single housing. Using soft starters have excellent cost/benefit ratio: Controlled starting; Controlled acceleration; Adjustable torque limiting and Controlled stopping.

Oven Furnaces systems

An industrial furnace or direct fired heater, is an equipment used to provide heat for a process or can serve as reactor which provides heats of reaction. Furnace designs vary as to its function, heating duty, type of fuel and method of introducing combustion air. In metallurgy, several specialized furnaces are used. These include: Furnaces used in smeltersFurnaces used to remelt metal in foundriesFurnaces used to reheat and heat treat metal; Vacuum furnaces. PLC often control variables like temperature, pressure, revolution speed or flow rate by controlling the actuators like VSD. Protocol offers the possibility to establish a connection to a process control system.

Solid State and Main Frequency System

Induction heaters. In general terms, it is best to use the lowest practical frequency and a low power density when undertaking shrink fitting as this will generally provide more evenly distributed heat. The exception to this rule is when using heat to remove parts from shafts. In these cases it is often best to shock the component with a rapid heat, this also has the advantage of shortening the time cycle and preventing heat buildup in the shaft which can lead to problems with both parts expanding. Solid state units from 1 kW to many megawatts in frequencies from 1 kHz to 3 MHz including dual frequency units are now available using discrete PLC technology.

Gas/Oil fired furnace systems

Case study – Zimalco produces in-house workable aluminium products from raw scrap of all shapes and forms. The transformation of these products requires large amounts of heat, after a feasibility study the company chose gas as the most economical option. The furnace configuration is based on dual burners with all the safety systems and interlocks to meet the latest ISO specifications. PSY Systems designed a user-friendly operator interface, offering clear status and control information, incorporating gas proofing, low fire risk and modulating operations. The control philosophy is one of safety first, so the safety emergency stop system inputs must always be present and the system resets at the control panel door.
