A Product For Tomorrow’s World

The T3L is a concept that PSY Intl has had lying around in our ‘invention cabinet’ for more than 10 years. We identified the need for an appealing product within the motor vehicle industry.  This product offers two functions, a futuristic look for the year 2050 motor vehicle and providing a closer step towards improving road safety.

This product is the T3L motor vehicle speed indication system.  This technology  provides the next  enhancing step to drive us safely into the future.

1. INTRODUCTION OF THE T3L PRODUCT

  • The T3L product is a pro-active controller that operates independently and in conjunction with conventional  vehicle braking indication systems.
  • The product conforms to an accepted motoring design and is fully automated, therefore requires no motorist operation or intervention.
  • The T3L product has no moving parts, and is micro computer based, therefore providing accurate displayed information.

 

1.1 Systems Used In Today’s World

The existing braking indication systems  consist of  two general methods, firstly, when the vehicles brake pedal is depressed the vehicles rear Red Brake Lights illuminate, and secondly, vehicles fitted with additional rear window  or boot spoiler brake indicating systems only mimic the same rear Red Brake Lights.

 
1.2 T3L Product For Tomorrow’s World

The T3L Product is a highly visible optical speed indicating system.

For the first time motorists will be able to instantly understand the speed intentions of the motorist in front.  A vehicle fitted with  T3L technology will provide speed related naked reality.

One typical scenario is,  a  driver of a vehicle is maintaining a  constant pressure on his  accelerator pedal, the  vehicle is traveling along an inclined road, but due to the vehicles limited  horse power, he is actually decreasing  speed. without T3L  technology there is no indication to following motorist of this decreasing speed

 
1.3 T3L Product Implementation
T3L Unit is a low cost item that is designed for OEM and retrofit markets.The T3L display indicator is situated at the rear of a vehicle, i.e. in the rear window,  embedded in the boot spoiler, or roof spoiler etc and the sensor is a standard vehicle speed sensor.   Both display and sensor simply plug into the micro computer unit.The concept of  T3L displayed information requires very short learning period and/or education to motorists.

2. FUNCTIONALITY  OF THE T3L PRODUCT

2.1

General  advantages

 To increase the flow of traffic by  synchronizing  the usual asynchronous traffic flow during normal or congested traffic conditions. Enhancing visibility with respect to vehicle speed changes during night driving and/or bad weather conditions.

This T3L technology will  benefit all motorists, especially motorists that suffer with a vision impediment.

To reduce road rage by easing individual motorist traffic anguish. and most importantly reducing the number of rear end collisions, due to poor understanding of traffic flow.

Displayed Information

Speed changes are represented by colour lights, rear window colour fusion or by alpha-numeric characters.

Bar Strip System 

The light strips vary in length indicating speed change rates.

Red Light/LED Strip “ON” and varying in length:

  • The vehicle in front is decelerating.

Amber Light/LED Strip “ON” and varying in length:

  • The vehicle in front is maintaining speed ( no speed changes).

Green Light/LED Strip “ON” and varying in length:

  • The vehicle in front is accelerating.

Wave Strip System

The light strips vary in shape height indicating speed change rates.

Red Light/LED Strip Increasing its convex :

  • The vehicle in front is decelerating.

Red Light/LED Strip No convex or concave :

  • The vehicle in front is  maintaining speed ( no speed changes).

Red Light/LED Strip Increasing its concave :

  • The vehicle in front is accelerating.

Alpha-numeric characters System

The Alpha-numeric characters vary in text indicating speed change rates. i.e.  Slower, No Change and Faster etc.

Note: The terminology given to the above indication is  T3L.

3.1 T3L Display Units

The above columns represent three T3L displays of different system types.  Each system  runs in sequence from column top to column bottom and displaying an example of a vehicle braking rapidly to acceleration rapidly.

  1. Bar Strip System: The light strips vary in length indicating speed change rates.
  2. Wave Strip System: The light strips vary in shape height indicating speed change rates.
  3. Tri-State System: The Fix Shape light strips change colour indicating speed change.

4. PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION OF THE T3L PRODUCT

4.1 Stand Alone System.

T3L  Product for retrofit market.

A speed sensor is installed to sense any part of the vehicles rotational mechanism, this mechanism must be directly proportional to the vehicles velocity.  An alternative speed signal can be fed from the vehicles electric/electronic system.

This speed signal is fed into the T3L Unit’s computer to analyze speed differences, the result of this calculation is transferred to the T3L display unit, thus indicating the dynamic speed changes via colour LED’s or alpha-numeric displays.

4.2 Integrated System.

T3L Product for OEM market.

  A speed sensor is installed to sense any part of the vehicles rotational mechanism, this mechanism must be directly proportional to the vehicles velocity.  An alternative speed signal can be fed from the vehicles electric/electronic system.

T3L algorithms are programmed into the vehicle computer.

This speed signal is fed into the vehicles computer to analyze speed differences, the result of this calculation is transferred to either the T3L display unit or the vehicle’s rear lighting system.
